China Government Scholarship is set up by the MOE, implemented by China Scholarship Council (CSC)in order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between China and the rest of the world. The China Government Scholarship endeavors to enhance cooperation and exchanges in the various kinds of fields such as education, science and technology, culture, economics and trade and so on between China and other countries. There are a series of China Government Scholarships to sponsor international students with studies in 252 Chinese host universities including specialties such as academic programs of Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Economics, Law, Management, Education, History, Literature, Philosophy and Arts, and other non-academic programs.

The China Government Scholarship Programs and Applications

There are many small categories of China Government Scholarships listed as following:

1. The Bilateral Scholarship

It is one of the China Government Scholarship established by the MOE according to certain exchange agreements or agreed between Chinese government and governments of other countries. This China Government Scholarship offers both full and partial scholarships for international students such as undergraduates, postgraduates, Chinese language students, visiting scholars and senior visiting scholars to help them study in China. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to designated institutions, Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

2. CHINA/UNESCO the Great Wall Fellowship

It is one of the China Government Scholarship with full scholarship established by the MOE for China Government Scholarship candidates recommended by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It is worth mentioning that only visiting scholar and senior visiting scholar are eligible for this China Government Scholarship. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship may apply either to UNESCO headquarters, the UNESCO national committee in their home countries or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

3. Distinguished International Students Scholarship

It is one of the China Government Scholarship established by MOE to help outstanding international students accomplishing their previous degree studies in China, and are successfully admitted by target Chinese universities as graduates in the following year. This China Government Scholarship comprises full and partial scholarships. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can directly apply via the recommendation of their Chinese target universities or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

4. HSK Winner Scholarship

It is one of the China Government Scholarship with full scholarship, established by MOE to sponsor international students of the winners in the HSK test (Chinese Proficiency Test) . The HSK test is held overseas for international students to study Chinese in China. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply through the relevant HSK test holding organizations, Chinese diplomatic missions or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

5. Chinese Cultural Research Fellowship

It is one of the China Government Scholarship established by MOE to support international scholars in Chinese culture to better implement their research in China. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to the CSC directly, be recommended by related Chinese institutions and Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries to apply for this China Government Scholarship or they can just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

6. The short-term Scholarship for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language

This is one of the China Government Scholarship which is established by MOE for international teachers teaching Chinese as a second language. Winners of this China Government Scholarship can undertake research in China. Applicants can apply through Chinese diplomatic missions in their home countries or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

7. Chinese University Program

It is one of the China Government Scholarship with full scholarships to better help Chinese universities to admit outstanding international students of graduates study in China. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to their target Chinese universities directly or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

8. EU Program

It is one of the China Government Scholarship aiming to recruit students from EU member countries to study in China so as to improve mutual understanding between China and the EU member countries. This China Government Scholarship includes undergraduate programs, master’s programs, doctoral programs, general scholar programs and senior scholar programs. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to the Office for Education and Culture, Mission of P. R. China to the European Union or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

9. AUN Program

It is one of the China Government Scholarship with full scholarships for ASEAN University Network to improve the mutual understanding between China and ASEAN members. This China Government Scholarship only includes graduates programs. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to AUN Secretariat or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

10 PIF Program

It is one of the China Government Scholarship with full scholarship for students from Pacific island countries to study in China. This China Government Scholarship includes undergraduate programs, master’s programs, doctoral programs, general scholar programs and senior scholar programs. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

11 WMO Program

It is one of the China Government Scholarship with partial scholarship including a tuition fee waiver, free on-campus accommodation and Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for students studying in the fields of meteorology, hydrology, and water resources supervision and management in China. This China Government Scholarship only supports undergraduate programs and graduate programs. Applicants of this China Government Scholarship can apply to World Meteorological Organization (WMO) or just ask CUCAS to help them apply.

Values of The China Government Scholarship

Generally the China Government Scholarship comprises full and partial scholarships which are shown as following:
1. Full scholarship: it covers tuition (or research) fees, Medical Insurance for International Students, basic learning materials costs, accommodation, living allowance, a one-time settlement subsidy and one inter-city travel allowance.

2. Partial scholarship: it covers one or some items of the full scholarship.

3. International air travel: Applicants of the China Government Scholarship can only get the exempt of this fee if there are bilateral agreements or arrangements.
