Many big metropolitans in the world are renowned for their colorful nightlife, for example, Paris, New York, Venice etc. However, night life in China could be also described as “world-class”. There are so many kinds of shows that will be on display every night in the bars of major Chinese cities. Besides, expenses in bars and clubs are normally at a high level because you can not only purchase expensive foreign beers, vodkas or any other kinds of wine, but also all different kinds fashion events which could be seen as a sign of high status and taste.
Normally, bars and clubs are located in places with certain meanings. For example, lots of bars are opened in the areas of Beijing’s Sanlitun (三里屯) and Houhai (后海), where the former is the center places of foreign embassies of every nation, and the later is the perfect combination of Beijing’s history and stunning scenery. Look at Shanghai, the most international city in China, where Hengshan Road (衡山路) and Maoming Road (茂名路) represent the city’s history and glorious achievements, while Xintiandi (新天地) is also the combined result of the past and the modern. Bars and clubs in these specific areas are representatives of a city’s history and culture, as well as individual’s taste and status.
Bars and clubs are places of free and relax, that is why Americans like drinking while talking to each other. It seems that all people become friends at the end of the night. However, Chinese people are different. Under the deep influences of traditional Chinese cultures, people are not used to get along with strangers in a very short time, therefore, if you go to a Chinese bar, you can always see many groups of two or three people, and they come and go together because they are friends, and that is the reason why there are certain numbers of private booths in Chinese bars.
